The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has appointed Gabriel van Aalst president and CEO, effective in October 2016. He succeeds Susan Stucker, who had led the orchestra on an interim basis since September 2015. Van Aalst goes to New Jersey from London, where he served as chief executive of the chamber orchestra Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Prior to that position van Aalst was orchestra manager of the Sydney-based Australian Chamber Orchestra, and before entering the orchestra field he spent four years as associate producer for the Australian theatrical company Andrew McKinnon Presentations. Van Aalst plays piano and violin and was principal second violin in the Sydney Youth Orchestra.
